Young band take crown

Reporter: Reporter

A YOUNG band emerged victorious in the Battle of the Bands competition at this year's Crafty Craft race.
In addition to the race along the canal, today's event saw a new addition with a Battle of the Bands competition, organised by local venue, Avenue.
Four adult bands made it through recent heats to today's final, which was played out in front of large crowds at Victoria Park, Newbury, despite the changeable weather conditions.
And Kinky Boot Beasts, a four-piece band made up of young men in their teens or early twenties from Newbury, Maidenhead and Reading, took the crown ahead of Parallax, Wishlist and Mortdelamer.
The quartet, who only formed as a band six months ago, said they were surprised to have won the competition, but described it as an 'awesome feeling'.
Earlier in the day, young Cold Ash rock band Jammin' Dodgers secured the under 18s crown, fending off strong competition from another young band, Numex.
