Controversial plans submitted for 750 homes at Pincents Hill
Mon, July 27 2009

MP vows to continue to battle planning application to build 750 homes, a school and a hotel in Tilehurst

THE long awaited planning application for 750 homes at Pincents Hill has finally been submitted to West Berkshire Council.
The ambitious outline application, which includes a primary school and a 40-bedroom hotel, has been the subject of huge controversy since developers Blue Living announced they would like to build on the 37-acre site in Tilehurst.
It also includes a nursery and plans for up to six shops and emphasises open spaces and areas for walking and jogging.
However Reading West MP, Martin Salter, has said he is determined to fight the development.
He said: “Blue Living can stick all the window dressing on the application that they like, but as far as I’m concerned the vital green wedge between Theale and Tilehurst is sacrosanct.
“Sadly the Conservatives have given the developers the amber light by including the development in the LDF.
“I’m going to fight this all the way.”
The development was recently included in West Berkshire Council’s consultation for the Local Development Framework.
However it has been met with fierce opposition by residents who have been campaigning to prevent the area from being developed.
