A SIX-year-old from Upper Bucklebury has discovered a species of moth that has never been seen in Britain before.Katie Dobbins, who attends Bucklebury Primary School, found the dead moth in her home in Broad Lane and decided to use it as her show and tell project for her classes mini-beast week at school. On closer inspection, her mother Sue thought it was quite an unusual looking species and sent the details of it to an entomologist friend of hers to get it identified for Katie's presentation. He confirmed that it was an Euonymous Leaf Notcher moth which is native to Asia and that this species had never before been seen in Britain.Mrs Dobbins said: "In the moth world it's all very exciting."The Berkshire Moth Group has said that they were not sure whether this was the first sign of a species about to colonise the UK, or whether it just got imported with a plant as a one-off.They are urging people to keep their eyes open for this species. The moth will now be sent to the Natural History Museum where it will be placed in their collection.
