MOTORISTS across the area have been baffled by signs for a new ‘multipex’ in Newbury.Signs, made and put up by motoring organisation the AA and offering directions to the car park for the town’s new cinema, contain a spelling error. The nine signs, strategically placed around the area, direct visitors to the town’s ‘multipex’ rather than ‘multiplex’.Spokesman for the AA, Gavin Hill-Smith, admitted it was a “bit embarrassing” but said the organisation was due to replace all the signs by tomorrow (Thursday).“We produce around 80,000 signs a year and unfortunately this was a genuine mistake,” he added. The signs were put up last Wednesday (November 11) and are due to remain in place until next May.The long-awaited £2.5m cinema finally opened its doors to the public on Friday (November 13).The cinema, which is operated by Vue Entertainment, is a major element of the Newbury Vision 2025 and has around 1,000 seats across its seven screens, all of which are licensed and have Dolby Surround Sound.More than 5,000 eager visitors went to the new cinema in its opening weekend.
