Bat workshop
Picture special: Bats given a boost by primary pupils
Mon, February 08 2010

Children and their fathers took part in a workshop to build nesting boxes

LAMBOURN Primary School pupils gave bats a boost on Saturday as they made nesting boxes for them and met four native species.
Children and their fathers took part in a workshop organised by the Extended Services Partnership at the school in Greenways to make the wooden boxes and were shown native species including pipistrelles (pictured) close-up.
Headteacher of the school, Peter Shelton, said: “Seeing the bats close-up, including their faces and teeth, was fascinating.
“The children were engrossed and I think the dads were just as interested.
“The boxes were all finished by the end of the session and they just had to be taken home and fixed to a tree or the side of a building.”
The workshop was part of a long-term project to provide more places for bats to live in the Lambourn Valley.
