A COURT hearing into an appeal against a noise abatement notice at the Newtown Road waste site in Newbury will be held in June. In October, West Berkshire Council issued a formal noise abatement notice to its own waste contractor and tip operators, Veolia Environmental Services West Berkshire, telling them to pipe down or face legal action and a potential fine. The notice, which requires Veolia to introduce noise reduction measures at the site within a limited timescale, was issued after district councillors campaigned on behalf of Greenham residents, who had made several complaints of noise pollution from the site since the facility opened in October 2008. But Veolia appealed against the notice and district council spokesman Phil Spray said a case management hearing is set to take place at West Berkshire Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 7.
