Air ambulance
Rider in hospital after fall
Tue, February 09 2010

Work rider is recovering from a broken pelvis after a fall in Upper Lambourn

A LAMBOURN horse rider is expected to stay in hospital for the foreseeable future after a fall in Upper Lambourn.
Mark Tierney, aged 46, broke his pelvis after the young horse he was riding fell on top of him at the Kingsdown all-weather gallop yesterday morning (Monday).
He was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon by the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance at about 9.15am.
Trainer John Hills, who employs Mr Tierney, said: “It was a really horrible injury.
“He was amazingly brave, but very uncomfortable. The air ambulance lot were fantastic, though.”
He said that the work rider would be in hospital for “a long time” and that he may not be able to walk for the next six weeks.
“I spoke to his daughter this morning and hopefully, he won’t need surgery,” he added. “He will mend, but it’s going to take some time.”
Hospital spokeswoman Terri Stevens said this morning (Tuesday) that Mr Tierney was "resting and doing well."
