Town council has no objections to 7am start for pub
Wed, March 10 2010

Newbury's town councillors agreed not to object to the licensing application

JD WETHERSPOON’S application for a 7am alcohol licence has not received any objections from local town councillors.
The pub operator, which is to take over the former Berkshire Tavern in the Market Place and re-name it The Hatchet, recently submitted the licensing application to West Berkshire Council.
On Monday night members of Newbury Town Council’s planning and highways committee offered their comment on the proposal and agreed not to object to the licensing application.
JD Wetherspoon spokesman, Eddie Gershon, recently said that although the application would allow them to serve alcohol from 7am, it is unlikely the pub would open before 9am, when the breakfast trade begins.
West Berkshire Council is expected to make the decision on the plans in the coming weeks.
