Fri, March 12 2010

The woman fell to the ground after she was robbed in broad daylight

AN elderly woman was injured in Newbury on Wednesday after her handbag was stolen in broad daylight.
During the incident, which happened in Link Road, the 85-year-old woman was approached from behind by a man on a bicycle who grabbed her handbag as she walked down the road.
This caused her to fall to the ground before the man rode off towards St John's Road with her handbag.
She was taken to hospital where she was treated for her injuries.
Det Sgt James Humphries, from Newbury CID, said: “This was a particularly nasty incident which left the victim with a broken collar bone among other injuries.
“Fortunately, she is well enough to continue her recovery at home."
The offender is white, with dark hair and he was wearing a black top, dark or navy coloured jeans and he was on a cycle.
Anyone with any information about this incident should contact Newbury CID via 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

The robbery is the latest in a string of street crimes in Newbury during the past few weeks.
