THE POMP and splendour of Battle Proms returns to the Highclere Castle estate this afternoon (Saturday).Visitors can enjoy a traditional fairground and stalls, or visit a Napoleonic encampment, before picnicking whilst being entertained by jazz band Cambridge Jazz Co.An age of elegance is set to be brought to life, with the Napoleonic Cavalry and Infantry displays, followed by an evening gun salute by the English Field Artillery Company.Conducted by Douglas Coombes, The New English Concert Orchestra will be accompanied by soprano, Denise Leigh, and flute soloist, Annie Lydford, hosted by BBC broadcaster, Tommy Pearson.The opening of the musical programme will be accompanied by an aerial Spitfire display, continuing with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, with live cannon fire, before and the Battle Proms signature piece, Beethoven’s Battle Symphony.
