Quantel move not 'downsizing'
Tue, November 07 2006

Shaw-based company say recent redundancies are not related to relocation plans

QUANTEL has denied rumours that recent redundancies are related to relocation plans.
The Shaw-based technology firm revealed two weeks ago that it was looking for new premises.
Quantel say the move is because their current, 25-year-old site is no longer suitable, as the nature of their business has changed.
Within the last month the firm has made around 12 redundancies, which they attribute to “re-shaping”.
At the same time, Quantel are looking to fill 20 vacancies in other areas of the company.
Ray Cross, Quantel CEO, said: “Quantel has just completed a very successful year, with product sales up by over 50%.
“We need to keep that momentum going and that means a continual re-shaping of our company to stay ahead of a highly dynamic market. Over the last year we have practically doubled the size of our sales and support operations.”
The redundancies have mainly affected the hardware manufacture and process areas.
More staff will be taken on in research, software development, support services and sales and marketing.
It’s thought their 6.5acre site in Turnpike Road could be used for housing once it has been vacated.
