Man botches hammer robbery
Sat, December 15 2007

Police hunt man who tried to rob a petrol station with a hammer before fleeing the alarmed store

DETECTIVES are hunting a man who tried to rob a petrol station in Tadley with a hammer.
The man wanted in connection with the attempted armed robbery entered the Esso Garage at Mulfords Hill yesterday (Friday) at 1.20am and threatened the cashier with a hammer.
When the cashier refused to open the till, the staff member activated the alarm and the robber fled the store, damaging its front doors in the process.
The man was spotted running down Mulfords Hill towards the New Road roundabout.
Police believe the man is white, in his mid-twenties, about 5ft 11ins tall and was wearing a dark grey hooded top, light grey tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.
Pc Peter Hanson, from Basingstoke’s Priority Crime Unit, said: “Fortunately no-one was injured during the robbery and the offender left empty handed.”

Anyone with any information should contact PC Hanson at Basingstoke CID on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
