NEWBURY snowboarder Jack Shackleton gained his best result since being selected for the British team when he finished an excellent sixth at the Europa Cup on Saturday (February 23). Shackleton at age 19 has made rapid progress in the sport and after his inclusion in the British Freestyle team by Snowsport GB before Christmas, he gave his best ever performance in the Europa Cup series. In the two-day event held at Klinovec, Czech Republic, Shackleton came sixth in the first half pipe event on Saturday, behind team-mate Dom Harrington who won the event. Shackleton also went on to equal his previous best result of 10th in the second half pipe event on Sunday. Shackleton’s performance capped a remarkable rise from the young prospect as he came 97th in his first Europa Cup half pipe of the season. Shackleton is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the British team, a standing underlined by his performance in the British Snowboarding Championships at the Dorset Snowsports Centre when he just missed out on gold and had to settle for a runners-up spot.
