OLYMPIC gold medallists are expected to cycle around Newbury in September as part of the Tour of Britain. British team cyclists Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas who won gold medals yesterday (Monday) in Beijing, China, are due to cycle through Newbury on September 8.Newburytoday reported in February that the Olympians would cycle in the eight day challenge from September 7-14.Wiggins and Thomas won the men’s team pursuit 4,000 meters race along with British team mates Ed Clancy and Paul Manning in three minutes, 53.314 seconds, breaking the world record. Wiggins, who also won the gold for the 4,000m individual pursuit at the weekend, and Thomas are expected to cycle for their respective professional teams, Team Columbia and Barloworld during The Tour of Britain.Olympic bronze medallist in the Points Race, Chris Newton, is also due to lead the Rapha – Condor – Recycling.co.uk squad at the tour.Race organisers said that defending champion and Tour de France yellow jersey holder Romain Feillu and 2008 Olympic road race starter Ben Swift will also join the eight day race.Fellow Olympic road race starter, Jonathan Bellis, is expected to ride with World and Olympic Champions Stuart O’Grady and Brad McGee for team CSC-Team Saxobank.
