AN election is to be held to fill the empty seat left on Thatcham Town Council. Kath Evans, of William Close, recently announced she was stepping down from the council due to family and personal reasons. She was a councillor for the Thatcham South and Crookham ward. She was also chairwoman of the finance and general purposes committee and the town council's representative for the Thatcham Children's Centre. The date of the election will be Thursday, March 19. THE first car boot sale of the season in Thatcham will be held on Monday, March 16. The sale is held in a field just off lower Way in Thatcham. Gates open at 7.30pm for buyers and sellers and entrance for buyers is 40p with under 16s entering for free. Local man, Ray Prior, will attend the event with his birds of prey. Visitors will be able to get a hands-on experience as well as learn about the birds of prey. The sessions will be held at the Lower Way centre at 10.30am, 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm. The event costs £5 and booking is essential. The meeting is being held to discuss and, if necessary, establish action groups for the suggested activities raised by residents in response to the September 2008 village survey. These activities were art and crafts, drama and photography, badminton, fitness, running and cycling. The idea of climate change and how to make the community more sustainable will also be discussed. The meeting will be held in the Acland Hall in Hermitage Road, Cold Ash from 7pm until 9.30pm. All parishioners are welcome to attend. THE next Thatcham Town Council surgery will be held on Saturday, March 7. This is a chance for Thatcham residents to talk to both a Thatcham town councillor as well as a district councillor for Thatcham about any issues they may have. This month's town council representative will be Glyn Slater and the district councillor will be Lee Dillon. Council surgeries are held in the Broadway in Thatcham from 10am until 12pm. THATCHAM Town Council is inviting sports clubs and organisations to come forward and offer free taster sessions at this year's Thatcham Family Fun Day. These organisations are being invited to be on hand through the day to talk to visitors about their clubs and what they have to offer. The town council is also offering local charities the opportunity to set up a stall to raise funds for their causes with things such as goods for sales and games. As well as this there will other activities available for visitors to try. The Newbury Weekly News sponsored Thatcham's Family Fun Day with Junior Fun Run in the Field is held by the Spring Charity Fundraisers. This year's event will take place on Sunday, June 28 at Henwick Worthy Field in Thatcham. The event was held at this site for the first time last year and brought in record number of entries.
