NEWBURY BLUES are hoping to shake off a bug that has laid low several players before they dash up the M6 to play National League One bottom side Manchester in pursuit of their first away win of the season on Saturday.Training numbers were decimated earlier this week as the bug bit hard.“We were thin on the ground to say the least,” said coach Ben Sturnham. “It’s just another thing to add into the mix for us.”Sturnham is hoping the sufferers will recover so that he can keep faith with the side that beat Coventry last week.“It was a great performance,” he said, “but a bit irritating as well.“You look at a couple of games we have drawn and lost and think what might have been,” he said. “We could be going to Manchester with 38 or 39 points and still right in the mix.”Sturnham hopes to have his Bath contingent available in support, although he will stick with youngster Harry Pendleton in the front row after his storming debut last week."He did tremendously well last week,” said Sturnham. “Although I know that this is a massive ask for a 20-year old.”Manchester have won only once this season, down the road at Sedgley Park, so something will have to give between one team yet to win at home, and the other away.“This is a game we have got to target,” said Sturnham, “although I know it will not be easy. We have got to travel there and back on the day, so we have got to cope with that as well.”
