Reading captain wins PFA Player in the Community Award for Swings and Smiles work

READING'S Graeme Murty won the PFA Player in The Community Award at the 2009 Football League Awards on Sunday night.
Murty received the award at a gala dinner held at London’s at Grosvenor House hotel to mark his commitment to a wide range of community projects.
The club captain is also patron of ‘Swings and Smiles’, the charity set up to provide West Berkshire with a recreational facility for families with special needs children.
Murty received his award from PFA chairman Chris Powell and said: “There's not much recognition for players going into schools and working with youngsters, but it's important work that's making a contribution to children's lives.
“Seeing the sacrifices parents with special needs children make was one of the reasons I wanted my testimonial year to include charities, and if I'm doing this sort of work then hopefully other players will do the same.”
