HUNGERFORD schoolchildren came face to face with their French pen friends recently when they met fellow Year 9 pupils from twin town Ligueil. The John O’Gaunt Community Technology College pupils, who had been writing to children at the College Maurice Genevoix in France, spent lunchtime with them, practicing their French. The French children then had a tour of Hungerford and were greeted at the town hall by bellman Robin Tubb and mayor Peter Harries. The group from the Indre et Loire region of the country included the granddaughter of a member who has been involved in twinning for more than 20 years, and English co-ordinator Penny Brookman said that it was encouraging to see a third generation of twinning. She added that the group is now looking to recruit primary school age children to pair up with French pen friends.Anyone wishing to find a French pen friend, or take part in twinning trips, can contact Mrs Brookman on 01488 683314.
