THE CAR driver who made national headlines by towing a snowboarder through Hungerford High Street in a blizzard will not be prosecuted. The controversial decision was made by the Crown Prosecution Service after police traced and arrested the 26-year-old motorist after a video of a man being towed behind a car became a sensation of video sharing website Youtube. In the video passers-by can be seen taking photographs as the surfer snakes his way through the town during last January’s big freeze. Sgt Andy Bone, from the town’s neighbourhood policing team, said at the time that the car and snowboard were seen bumping into cars parked either side of the road during the evening. He added: "Although this may seem to be a funny incident it does have serious ramifications for those involved and other members of the public. "This driver will also be committing traffic offences and should his friend become injured, or worse, than a charge of dangerous driving would be seriously considered. This, if convicted at court carries a prison sentence. "The fact that it was recorded and put onto the internet clearly indicates those involved thought about what they were doing.” However a police spokesman said on Tuesday: "The driver, from Hungerford, has surrendered to police bail at Newbury Police Station where he was told that the CPS had instructed the police not to press charges. "Although no-one has been prosecuted for the incident, the file on the case has today been closed and no further action will be taken.”
