Tai Chi in the Market Place
Martial art stops shoppers in tracks
Mon, April 20 2009

Shoppers stopped in tracks as more than a hundred people move fluidly in unison in Market Place

MORE than 100 office workers practising the fluid movements of an ancient Chinese martial art stopped shoppers in their tracks yesterday (Monday).
The event, organised by Volunteer Centre West Berkshire director Garry Poulson, took place in Newbury's Market Square, as part of the Health and Well Being Partnership's 'Feel Good Fortnight.'
Tai Chi Chuan is a traditional Chinese system of exercise that integrates martial arts, physical health and spiritual development, laying special emphasis on the cultivation of internal energy, or 'Chi.'
The free lesson was given by Tai Chi Master John Dyke, of the White Dragon Society which offers lessons at Hedley Village Hall.
