Thatcham youth club workers needed
Fri, April 24 2009

Town's Vision team has secured funding and hopes to have the Thatcham youth club running by the start of summer

THE Thatcham Vision is looking for staff to run its new youth club.
Two youth workers are need to help set up and then run the club, which is for children aged eight to 12.
The Vision team has already secured funding from two sources.
The Parish Planning Partnership awarded the full amount asked for, £4,300, and SureStart donated £3,000.
The youth club will be based at the Lower Way Playing Field Pavilion and the aim is to have it open by the start of the summer.
As well as details of this new development, Vision members gave updates on the progress made and ongoing work at the recent meeting of the steering group.
The project has received a £6,000 grant from COMMA, which donates funds to projects in rural communities.
This money will be used to produce the Thatcham Heritage Publication, which will be published in July to coincide with National Archaeology Week.
The document is nearing completion and has been produced with the help of West Berkshire Council’s archaeology department and Thatcham Historical Society.
Vision member Sue Everett said that she was keen to look into a number of cycling initiatives, including towpath improvements and a cycle/footpath on Crookham Hill.
Another grant application had been submitted to COMMA for money to pay for improvements to the towpath from Hambridge Road bridge to Bulls Lock.
The application was supported by Newbury Town Council and British Waterways, but it was submitted too late for approval.
It was agree that the team would resubmit the application next time round.
A new Thatcham Vision website has been launched, aiming to involve more residents in the virtual community to talk about things to do with life in the town.
The new website includes news, travel and details of local organisations such as Thatcham Film, the youth forum and Thatcham Historical Society.
There is also a page dedicated to local issues, such as flooding, the recently-published document about the regeneration of the town centre and the first phase of the Thatcham Vision.
The site encourages residents to add their comments.
Thatcham Vision project manager Peter Allen said: “It will be interesting to see what local people think about these things, especially the town centre.”
Dr Nick Young, who worked on the revamped website, said: “It is a work in progress, so comments from Thatcham residents on how it might be improved and enhanced are welcome."
The site can be viewed at www.thatchamonline.net
