TWO Newbury cyclists made their marks with outstanding displays this week.

Sixteen-year old Chloe Jones won a silver medal at the National Track Cycling Youth and Junior Championships in Derby in the Keirin race made famous by Sir Chris Hoy.

Despite being a comparative novice with only two years of track experience, the Kennet School pupil finished fourth in the sprint competition before shining in the His exceptionally medal.

Meanwhile, Newbury Road Club’s Tim Cartwright’s superb run of form saw the 37-year old smash thclub’s 25 mile time trial record when clocking 47 minutes 53 seconds in the Bynea CC event in Wales, bettering the previous record of 50.51 set by Ian Greenstreet in April.

His time takes Cartwright into the elite of British time trialling, an outstanding achievement given that he only turned seriously to the sport three years ago and is clearly still on an improvement curve.
