Thieves ram-raid Newbury Co-op store

THIEVES have ram-raided the Co-operative food store in Pound Street, Newbury.

The cash machine was targeted overnight and the shop is still closed to the public while police carry out investigations.

A spokesperson for The Southern Co-operative said: "The Southern Co-operative store on Pound Street, Newbury was the victim of a ram raid last night. The ATM was targeted and the front of the store was damaged, however no-one was harmed during the incident.

"We are working with local police who are investigating the crime. The safety of our colleagues and customers is paramount, therefore the store will remain closed whilst our teams are assessing the extent of the damage and we hope to re-open the store as quickly as possible."
