A Newbury man has been charged with assaulting a 61-year-old man on Saturday.

Darren Brown, aged 35, of Newtown Road, has been charged with one count of wounding with intent, one count of false imprisonment and one count of blackmail.

The charges are in connection with an incident in Brocksett Close, Reading when a 61-year-old man was made to take money from a cash machine and was assaulted.

The incident occurred between 6am and 9.30am on Saturday, June 27.

Brown was arrested the same day and charged on Sunday.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court today (Monday)
