A bungling thief who snatched a woman's handbag fell off his bike in the process.

The woman was walking in St Michael's Road when a man rode past her, grabbed her bag and tried to ride off.

His quick getaway was foiled, however, when he fell off the bike and ended up running off with the handbag, with the woman's partner in pursuit.

The bag was recovered but the mobile phone was missing.

The incident occurred at 11.06pm on Tuesday, June 30.

The thief is described as around 5ft 10ins tall, in their late teens and slim.

He was wearing a maroon hooded top with the hood up and riding a silver bike.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the offender in the area or anyone acting suspiciously.
