POLICE were called to investigate a 'suspect package' near the Bayer offices in Newbury this afternoon.

However, after spending around 30 minutes at the scene, police determined that the package was not a threat to the public.

A Bayer employee, who did not wish to be named, said: "Our security noticed a suspect package and alerted the police, who have now dealt with it. It turned out to be nothing."

No roads were closed and no buildings evacuated.
