Thrilling day for Newbury Show's new head man

THE first day of the 2015 Royal County of Berkshire Show was "a real thrill" for the show's new chief executive.

Daren Bowyer took the reins earlier this year, making this year's show his first as the Newbury and District Agricultural Society's head man.

Mr Bowyer told Newbury Today this morning (Sunday) that his first show in charge had been amazing.

"What an exciting day. A real thrill for my first show day," he said.

"We had wonderful weather, happy excited crowds of all ages, the balloons going up for the first time in several years. Someone was smiling on me."

Mr Bowyer said that it was difficult to choose a highlight from his first day but said that seeing the balloons launch was a treat.

He added that it was nice to see the agricultural exhibitors letting their hair down with a drink after an enjoyable day.

With a 26-year career in the military in his cap, Mr Bowyer said that there were a lot of similarities between organising the show and the military.

"It's about producing a result and harnessing the talents of so many people," he said.
