THIS was the scene last night (Wednesday) as firefighters tackled  a major fire at a hotel near Mortimer.

Crews have been battling the blaze at Wokefield Park since 6pm last night and are still at the scene this morning.

Between 60 and 70 rooms in the executive suite are reported to have been destroyed but no-one is believed to have been hurt.

The fire is believed to have started in a bedroom block next to the conference centre and has affected three storeys of the building and roof.

Guests were evacuated to another building last night and the hotel provided food and drinks.

The photo above was taken by Karen Shaya at around 10pm last night and shows the top floor engulfed in flames.
