Man who dumped drugs in Victoria Park pond is jailed

A MAN who dumped Class A drugs into the pond in Newbury's Victoria Park has been jailed.

Eren Mehmet was convicted at Reading Crown Court on Monday February 15 of one count of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and was sentenced on the same day.

The 23-year-old, from Waltham Forest, London, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment.

On October 26 2015, at 11am, officers were out on patrol and approached Mehmet who climbed into the pond in Victoria Park and was seen discarding bags of white powder, believed to Class A drugs in the pond.

Investigating officer PC Rob Simpson-Jones, from Newbury Police Station said: “I am pleased at the conclusion of this case.  Drugs have a devastating impact on the lives of people and it is good that Mehmet is no longer able to supply drugs in the Newbury area.”
