A GREENHAM family had a lucky escape after a kitchen fire this evening (Wednesday).

Two fire engines were called at 5.15pm from Newbury to a semi-detached house in Hamilton Court.

Firefighters discovered the fire out on arrival and that the family had evacuated the smoke-logged building.

No-one was hurt.

The cause was put down to food on fire in the oven.

Firefighters used high pressure ventilation fans to clear the smoke and isolated the electric supply to the cooker.

Firefighters left the scene after 30 minutes.
