POLICE are investigating the cause of an accident in which a van overturned on the M4 in the early hours today (Sunday).

The incident happened at 2am between junction 12 (Theale) and junction 13 (Chieveley).

Manager of Newbury Fire Station's 'white' watch, Phil Knight, said: "The van rolled over in lane three and that meant a couple of lanes were taken out of action in both directions.

"Two appliances from Newbury attended plus one from Hungerford. In the event there were no injuries but we spent around 45 minutes making the carriageways safe."

He added: "Thames Valley Police attended and they are investigating the cause of the single vehicle incident."

If you saw anything or have any information about the incident, call Thames Valley Police via the non-emergency 101 number.

Alternatively the independent Crimestoppers charity can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
