Lorry overturns on A339 South Newbury

A lorry overturned on the A339 this morning (Wednesday).

Emergency services were called to the scene at the Swan roundabout south of Newbury at around 11.15am.

Two fire engines from Newbury and police vehicles were called to the incident.

A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 11.16am to a heavy goods vehicle on its side at the Swan roundabout near Newbury.

"No one was trapped and there wasn’t a fire. There was a small fuel spillage that we contained.

"The stop message came back at 11.30am."

Thames Valley Police spokesperson Hannah Jones also confirmed: "We were called at 11.15pm today to a report that a truck had overturned at the Swan roundabout in Newton Road, A339, Newbury.

"From our log it appears to be a damage only road traffic collision and the driver was uninjured."

When will our bungling politicians ever do anything about the HGV issue on this road. I live on the A339 and almost every trip I see HGV's within feet of cars (Tailgating). Pulling out on people. Overtaking on blind spots, using mobile phones etc. The police do nothing. Its not just a matter of time until someone gets killed, it has happened. Make them use the A34 - That's what its for.
