NEWBURY firefighters rescued a fledgling swallow from a gutter this morning (Tuesday).

One fire engine was called from Newbury Fire Station at 10am to a property in Hawthorne Road, where the station is based and after a young swallow had become stuck in a gutter.

The householder had been feeding the bird for a couple of days, before releasing it.

Firefighters climbed up a ladder to rescue the bird and left after 15 minutes.
