A van found blazing in a Mortimer country lane during the early hours of this morning (Monday) was put down to a suspected arson.

One fire engine from Whitley Wood was called at 2.40am to an unnamed road near Wokefield Park, where a van, believed to be a Ford transit, was well alight.

One firefighter wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using a hosereel.

The van, the engine for which had been removed, was destroyed in the incident, after being found parked up in the lane.

No-one was hurt.

Firefighters left the scene at 3.40am.
