Traffic light

FAULTY temporary traffic lights were to blame for this morning's rush hour gridlock in Newbury (Monday).

The lights were put up by Thames Water yesterday (Sunday) so it could carry out emergency repair work on the A339 close to St Gabriel's School.

But today, the lights were stuck on red, causing mayhem for motorists.

Some reported it taking an hour to travel two miles from Tot Hill Services, down the Newtown straight and into town.

There could be more bad news to come - Thames Water believe the work could take five days to complete, which means more delays are likely throughout the week.

West Berkshire Council said the first it knew of the roadworks was when it started receiving complaints about the traffic today.

Gridlock is not helped by the racecourse preventing through traffic over the new Bridge off Hambridge Rd. whilst Boundary Road is closed.

This has been said before, but whoever is responsible won't back down, this would be a very helpful link

And this is what it would be like every single day if they build another 2000 houses at Sandleford. I have had 2 days of queuing now, and another 3 to look forward to by the sound of it.

If the lights really were stuck on red this morning causing chaos, what was the excuse tonight it took me 28 minutes to go from halfords roundabout to tesco roundabout!!
