A MAN was rescued from a Tilehurst crane during the early hours of this morning (Friday), before being detained under the Mental Health Act.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) said police were called at 1.44am to Scours Lane, following a report of a fear for welfare for a man who was on a crane

"Fire service were deployed with their equipment to assist and man helped down at 2.41 when he was detained under section 136 of the mental health act," said TVP spokesperson, Lucy Billen.

Tilehurst firefighters were called to the incident at 3am.

A firefighter ascended the crane and climbed down with the man, before leaving the scene after around one hour.
