Travellers park up in Thatcham

TRAVELLERS have set up camp in Thatcham.

The group has set up on on land owned by West Berkshire Council behind Thatcham Cemetery.

The arrival of the group in Thatcham follows a group being moved on from land near Equine Way in Greenham (pictured) yesterday (Sunday).

Around 20 caravans had parked up on the land close to Newbury Retail Park.

Police issued a section 61 order on the group yesterday afternoon, with help from local councillors and estate directors.

More to follow.

Maybe we should learn to be less tolerant. Today they have left behind a bath, basin, toilet, bags of rubbish, litter, broken glass and toilet paper covered in faeces. Why doesn't the council have simple barriers up so that if the travellers undid the barriers they could be removed immediately? The process of trying to remove travellers can take days and yet when they moved onto the open area opposite the Plough in Thatcham a couple of weeks ago they were moved the same day simply because the travellers had to remove some wooden posts to enter that area. Congrats to all the council workers who look after the area near the cemetery, they do a magnificent job and I'm certain they will soon have the area back to the state the area was in before the travellers defiled it.

Maybe we need to learn to be more tolerant. There seem to have been travellers camped in Padworth (next to Anchor Vans) for years, but I don't recall Padworth residents making a fuss about it!!

The Padworth site is an official site for travellers! Surely you must know that.?

If they have been there for years then they are not exactly travellers are they !!!!!!

As long as their garden isn't anywhere near my road !!! Ideally Sausages lives in a completely different county!
