Firefighters battle Winterbourne field blaze

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a Winterbourne field fire this afternoon (Sunday).

Two pumps were called at around 3.45pm, from Newbury Fire Station, to land situated off the Wantage Road, where two acres of stubble were alight.

Nearby residents of houses had self evacuated the properties.

No-one was hurt.

Firefighters used beaters and water from hose reels to extinguish the blaze, cause unknown, before leaving at 4.45pm.
