Young brainboxes help boost parcel fund

CHIEVELEY are champions! That is Chieveley Primary School, who took part in our Junior School Quiz night on Tuesday.

We had 19 teams competing in our quiz at Falkland Primary School to enable us to find the young brainboxes in West Berkshire.

The five pupils from Chieveley were presented with the David Stephenson Trophy by Brenda Stephenson.

The runners-up were John Rankin Junior School who were a very close second.

Thank you to all the teams for taking part in a very enjoyable evening, which raised nearly £200, especially the headteacher of Falkland Primary School, Mrs Wood, for hosting the quiz.

The weekend of November 26 and 27 is the packing weekend, when we have more than 60 Santa’s elves from Cub packs around the Newbury district all giving up their time to pack the 2,100 food parcels.

If you would like to donate towards the cost of our food parcels and pay through The Good Exchange, run by Greenham Common Trust, please just type in the NWN Over 80s Parcel Fund and you will be able to donate online.

Alternatively, you can just send a cheque made payable to the ‘NWN Over-80s’ Parcel Fund’ to our main office at Newspaper House, Faraday Road, Newbury, Berks RG14 2DW, for the attention of Jo Fulker.

This week, our thanks go to Donnington Hospital Trust, Town and Manor of Hungerford, Newbury Rotary Club, Soroptomist International, the many primary schools who took part in the school quiz night and several anonymous donations.

The final date for adding one of your friends or relatives to our list has now passed.
