FIREFIGHTERS tackled a fire at the Ikea construction site in Calcot during the early hours of this morning (Wed), where an industrial chemical transporter machine was ablaze.

Three pumps, from Dee Road, Tilehurst, Whitley Wood and Wokingham Road, were called to the Ikea construction site in Pincents Lane at 4.30am, where an industrial chemical transporter machine, carrying solvent, was well alight.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet and CO2 to extinguish the blaze, approximately 200m within the building under construction.

No-one was hurt.

The cause was put down to solvent spilling onto the hot exhaust of the machine, and accidental.

Firefighters left the scene at 6.30am.
