Does Newbury need a new bypass to solve its traffic problems?

The A34 between Highclere and Speen is at a standstill following an accident this afternoon.

Three vehicles were involved in a collision just noon.

An 82-year-old woman has been taken to the John Radcliffe hospital with severe chest and back injuries.

An air ambulance was called but was not used.

The A34 northbound has been closed and the southbound carriageway is down to one lane.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
