POLICE and firefighters were called out to an incident in Thatcham last night (Friday) after a man was reported to be depressed and in the cab of a crane 80ft in the air. Thames Valley Police officer Craig Evry said that they received a call at 10.10pm to say that the man was depressed and had been discovered in the crane cab at a building site. He said: "A local officer spoke to him and soon afterwards he came down and was detained." Commander Mike Wilson of Newbury Fire Station said that a fire crew was also called out to a building near to the former Thatcham Police Station at about 11.15pm and an aerial ladder platform was used to try to get the man down. Police said the incident was over by midnight.
