They're off at Newbury for the summer

Derby winner Dettori stars as Sunshine racing returns to the Racecourse

NEWBURY’S summer season gets under way today (Thursday) with an eight-race card running highlighted by the Listed Lord Weinstock Memorial EBF Stallions Stakes and the sight of derby winner Frakie Detorri in the saddle.

Run over a mile and a quarter for three-year-old fillies who have not won at Group One or Group Two levels, a field of 13 is set to go to post including Alonsoa, a Listed scorer at Sandown last season and Encore L'Amour, who chased home Lady Of Dubai, subsequently third in the Oaks.

John Gosden and Frankie Dettori are represented by Miss Giler, who finished fifth in the same Goodwood contest, while those with form at Newbury include Group Three Dubai Duty Free Stakes fourth Jelly Monger and Andrew Balding’s Victoria Pollard, who captured a 10-furlong maiden last month.

The action starts at 1.25pom with a Group One contest for Purebred Arabians, the Shadwell Arabian Stallions International Stakes over a mile and a quarter.
