Mark Mealing after Saturday's FA Cup opener

THATCHAM TOWN pulled off cup and league successes with a brace of 3-2 wins at Waterside Park.

They secured a First Qualifying Round trip to Hastings United on September 12 with Saturday’s win over Guildford City.

It was Guildford who struck first through Dan Hunter but Marcus Mealing soon headed home Josh Baines’ cross for the equalizer and Mark James scrambled Thatcham head before the break.

Mealing’s second goal with 20 minutes remaining stretched the lead, although Matt York headed one back to produce a nervy finish.

It was a stunning finish that produced Monday’s 3-2 win over reigning Hellenic League champions Flackwell Heath after the visitors had established  a two-goal lead.

Mitchell Woodward got forward to put Heath ahead midway through the first half and Dan Rapley tapped home a second before the break.

Two substitutes got Thatcham back on terms with Ian Davies and Yashwa Romeo on target before an Adam Morris penalty out them ahead and needing to survive a minute following the late sending off of defender Matt James.
