Hungerford face replay test

Diak John - key block denied Bradford

Hungerford Town 1 Bradford Town 1

HUNGERFORD face a Wednesday night replay trip down the Kennet and Avon Canal to Bradford on Avon after James Rusby’s 90th minute own goal condemned them to chasing a second chance.

Despite the unfortunate element to the equaliser, it was no more than the Toolstation Western League side deserved after a battling display that saw them make the chances that could have sewn up the tie at the first attempt.

Despite started on top, Hungerford strugled to find a rhythm for long spell and Neikell Plummer forced Paul Strudley to save before only a last-gasp block by Diak John kept out Mark Robinson.

Jon Boardman also had to make a decisive tackle to halt Plummer before the interval, although the Bradford striker had a real chance to put his side ahead in the opening minute of the second half.

Michale Rimemr had found skipper Aaron Wilson down the left and his cross-shot was pushed up by Strudley but fell to Plummer a couple of yards out from an open goal, and he blazed his chance over the top.

Five minutes later, Ibrahima Sarr was put away with only Strudley to beat, but with the goalkeeper advancing, he screwed his finish wide.

Hungerford showed more spark in the final 30 minutes and it looked as if they had got away with it when all three substittes combimed, James Clark playing Kelvin Bossman down the line and when defender Michael Jones missed his cross, Mark Draycott was on hand to finish.

Bossman had two chances to settle it, the second a Plummer-like miss with Jones again the culprit.

But with stoppage time fast approaching, substitute Mark Wall sent over a free kick and the ball glanced off the back of Rusby’s head to leave Strudley stranded and take the teams back into action in midweek.

Hungerford Town: Strudley; Horgan, Boardman, Day, John; Tyler, Collins, Rusby, O’Brien; Jarvis, Brown. Subs: Jones, Draycott, Stow, Clark, K. Bossman, Rees, Passey.

Bradford Town: Bartlett; Williams, Cornwall, Jones, Scott; Robinson, Wilson, Sarr, Rimmer; Plummer, Hopper. Subs: Wall, Overend, Phillip, Chipeni.
