Hungerford on the receiving end

Rhys Tyler - marching orders at Bradford

TEN-MAN Hungerford Town were on the receiving end of a ‘giant-killing’ when they crashed out of the FA Cup by losing 2-0 at Toolstation Western League Bradford Town on Wednesday night.

The last-gasp own goal at Bulpit Lane on Saturday that earned Bradford an albeit deserved replay was pounded as Bradford closed the two division gap in status to pull off one of the surprise results in the First Qualiying Round and earn themselves a home tie with Chippenham Town on September 26.

Hungerford exited at a sumilar stage to lower league oppositon last season and were again on the receiving end at a rain-swept Trowbridge Road ground.

Michael Rimmer gave Bradford the lead after 20 minutes and although Hungerford pummelled away for long periods, despite having Rhys Tyler sent off, their fate was secured when substitute Tyson Pollard netted a second with five minutes to go.

Hungerford now face two tough league games with last season’s baten play-off finalists St Neots Town the visitors on Saturday before Hungerford travel on Tuesday to play a Chesham United side currently unbeaten at home.
