Charlotte hammers a heavy best

Charlotte Payne - success with the heavy hammer

ATHLETICS: Newbury AC’s Charlotte Payne three a new UK age group in the heavy hammer in the opening event in the Swindon Harriers Winter Invitational Throws series.

She took to the heftier version alongside team-mates Jamie Kuehnel, Bob Broadbridge and Ian Payne in the heavy throws pentathlon in which under 15 Charlotte hurled the weight a record 17.19 metres.

She also threw the standard hammer 44.88m, below her personal best of 49.17m, but a good start to the season, and rounded off with a 9.58m shot.

Jamie Kuehnel threw a personal best of 59.72m in the under 20 boys hammer and another PB of 2.27m in the heavy hammer, while Masters athlete and throwing coach Bob Broadbridge landed seasonal bests in the hammer and shot of 47.31m and 12.77m respectively and threw the heavy hammer 15.55m.

The next event in the series is on November 21.
