HUNGERFORD roared back into fourth place in the Evo Stik League Southern’s Premier Division after an ultimately comfortable win in Warwickshire.

Although Paul Strudley had to save a Jamie Sheldon effort in the opening quarter, Hungerford deserved their first half lead when Mark Draycott’s shot came back off goalkeeper Andy Kemp and Stefan pounced to nod home the rebound.

James Rusby headed home Garyn Preen’s corner after 70 minutes and only a goal-line clearance denied Gary Horgan a third as Hungerford left themselves only four points off the top of the table.

Hungerford are next in action on Monday night when they entertain Weymouth, who have slipped off the play-off place and desperately need a win to revive their hopes.

Thatcham Town needed three goals in the final minutes to score a 3-1 win at Lydney Town that takes them into Tuesday night’s home showdown with Kidlington still riding on the top of the Hellenic League Premier Division table. An on goal, Josh Helmore and Jon Bennett saw them home after Lydney had taken a 70th minute lead.

Kidlington won 3-0 at Ardley United and had for Waterside Park trailing Town by five points, but with three games in hand.

Tadley Calleva returned from Portland United with a creditable point after a goal-less draw with the Sydenhams Wessex League Division One leaders.
