BANJO CYCLES’ Morgan Jones beat last year’s winner and team-mate Lee Gollop to win the annual Newbury Triathlon at Northcroft organised by Team Kennet.

He headed the near 350-finishers who had tackled the 300 yard swim, 22 kilometre bike ride and 5 km off-road run to clock 1 hour 00 minutes 42.6 seconds and finish just under three seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

Nigel Grantham of Pedalon.co.uk was third in 1:02.29.8 and was the fastest veteran.

The women’s race was hotly contested with Emily Roper 14th overall in 1:05.12.5 to claim the award ahead of Naomi Reynolds in 1:06.05.7 and Victoria Duncan of the Durham Uni Tri club in 1:06.08.8.

The host club’s best finisher was Dan Hall in sixth spot in 1:03.23.8 and Tri team Gloucester’s Tim Heaysham was the leading super vet in 11th place in 1:04.11.1.

The club will be holding its Newbury Duathlon on April 8 next year.
