More Sunday service a pain for Tadley Calleva

Manager Danny Dolan: unhappy with Sunday trip

TADLEY CALLEVA will have to take the Sunday road to Thame United for their FA Vase First Qualifying Round clash with the Hellenic League high-flyers.

Tadley reached the Third Round proper of the competition last season but have been handed a tough away draw, made all the more testing after being forced to break routine to play a knock-out tie on a Sunday for the second time this season, having gone out of the FA Cup at Highworth Town a few weeks ago.

“Originally they wanted it on Friday night for reasons we don’t know,”said manager Danny Dolan, “but we dug our heels in and said no. We’ve still got to go there on Sunday though and we’re not happy.”

Tadley will still give it a go, although they will be without midfielder Callum Bush, possibly for the rest of the season after he tore a cartilage in last week’s home draw with Totton and Eling.

“They’re unbeaten so we know how tough it will be,” said Dolan. “But we’ll have a decent side out and see if we can cause an upset.”

If a replay is needed, it will be at Barlows Park on Tuesday night with a 7.45pm kick off and the tie winners will travel to Royal Wootton Bassett in the next round on September 24.

Thatcham Town enter the competition in the First Round proper on October 22. Meanwhile, they bid to continue their scoring streak in the Hellenic League at Brimscombe and Thrupp on Saturday before embarking on another away game at Binfield on Monday night.
